Faith in the face of adversity: how a Christian woman rebuilds her life and faith in India

In a small village in the southwestern Indian state of Karnataka, a woman known as Kaveri has faced a life marked by adversity and religious persecution, yet she has transformed her experience into a testament to hope and resilience. India is one of the countries where persecution of Christians is on the rise, partly due to rigid anti-conversion laws and pressure from extremist nationalists in various regions of the country.

After separating from her husband, who left her to care for her children without financial support, Kaveri endured years of insecurity and social marginalization. The situation changed when she met a local pastor and began attending faith gatherings. Over time, she embraced Christianity along with her children and found a supportive community.

However, her efforts to grow spiritually were not without difficulties. The community organization she led and the prayer meetings in her home attracted the attention of some neighbors, who falsely accused her of converting the women of the village. This incident led to her being interrogated and experiencing moments of great anguish, reflecting the growing hostility toward Christians in certain areas of India.

Despite the obstacles, Kaveri did not give up. With external support, she received training in resilience in the face of persecution and assistance in opening a small sewing business, which allows her to interact with her community and share her faith more sustainably. Today, she manages a sewing workshop where she also supports other women.

Although some members of her family have also faced arrest for their faith, Kaveri remains committed to her spiritual path and to building relationships based on mutual respect, demonstrating that even in adverse contexts, faith can become a driving force for personal and community reconstruction.
